This Month's Newsletter is devoted to resources and references that I've found useful, along with a few thoughts of my own thrown in here and there. Hope you find something in it you can use to help start or grow your own small business. Dick B.

How to find what sells - We know there are many ways to start a small business, even if you don't have your own product or service to sell, but one question often asked is "how can I find out what kinds of things are really in demand and selling well. Here are three tools:

1. Google Product Search - http://www.google.com/products and Google Keyword Tool - http://googlekeywordtool.com Product Search shows the most popular products being searched for (and reviews & prices) and Keyword tool show what keywords searchers are using to look for these products and the frequency of searches.

2. eBay Pulse - http://pulse.ebay.com Items most frequently searched for on eBay (which by the way, is not a bad way to learn a little about eCommerce - by selling items on eBay.)

3. ClickBank Marketplace - www.clickbank.com/marketplace.htm For digital product research, there is no better place than ClickBank's Marketplace. Go to Promote Products, chose the category, and search by popularity.

E-Mail Marketing - few small businesses, especially home based businesses, are going to be able to survive, much less prosper, in today's economy without using e-mail marketing. What is Email Marketing? How to do it right? Here are a few sources to help you learn:

1. Aweber Knowledge Base - www.aweber.com Go to "Support" and then "Knowledge Base" and start learning. By the way, I use Aweber for my main site, and if you are receiving this Newsletter electronically, it is through Aweber.

2. Constant Contact Learning Center - http:www.constantcontact.com Check out the "Learning Center" - free education - I like it.

3. Mail Chimp www.mailchimp.com Go to "Resources" and you can get more free education. Incidently, if you are just beginning and have amoderate to small list (up to 2,000 subscribers & 12,000 emails per month) Mail Chimp's "Free Forever Plan" is great.

Forums - - Participating in forums has three major advantages to a small business person; 1.) you get to ask questions and benefit from the experience of others. 2.) You get to give back a little, by sharing your experience with others, and 3.) perhaps the most important, you can gain links back to your site from "significant" other sites, which is currently one of the largest ranking factors in Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
